Alexandre Kateb is the founder and chairman of The Multipolarity Report. Alexandre has 20 years of professional experience at the crossroads of financial and strategic advisory, macroeconomic analysis and public policy. Through COMPETENCE FINANCE the advisory boutique he founded in 2009, when the world was still reeling from the Great Financial Crisis, he delivers strategic advisory to governments and financial institutions (central banks and commercial banks, investment funds, stock exchanges and clearing houses, regulatory bodies) on topics ranging from strategic foresight to risk anticipation and regulatory compliance. His clients include high profile companies and organisations such as the BNP Paribas Group and LCH Clearnet, the leading European clearing house, alongside institutional investors and a number of hedge funds.

Alexandre Kateb has also advised a select number of governments in Europe, Africa and the Middle East on issues ranging from general economic policy, sector reform – with a focus on financial and monetary reforms – and investor attraction strategies. He has been mandated by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to provide strategic advisory in crisis-prone countries. In 2016, he was appointed as a Member of an Economic Task Force set up by the Prime Minister of Algeria in order to design a new economic diversification and development model. The resulting blueprint has been praised by the European Commission, the IMF and the World Bank. In 2018, Alexandre has advised the Government of Chad on a new economic development strategy and on the overhaul of its oil revenue management framework.

Alexandre Kateb has also filled key management positions among which Chief Economist and Group Head of Research at a pioneering MENA-focused financial services company and Deputy to the Director of Economic Research and Strategy at EXANE BNP PARIBAS. Prior to that he worked as a Banking supervisor at the French Banking Commission (ACPR) and as a senior economist within the Financial Stability Division of the Central Bank of France, where he monitored hedge funds and other non-banking financial institutions.

Alongside these professional assignments, Alexandre has lectured in Macroeconomics and International Finance as an Adjunct Professor at Sciences Po Paris for more than ten years. He is the author of acclaimed non-fiction books including The New World Powers. Why the BRICs are changing the world” (Ellipses, 2011) andArab economies on the move. A new development model for the MENA region (De Boeck Sup, 2019), with a foreword by former WTO Director General Pascal Lamy. Along the years, he has also provided strategic advisory and foresight for several think tanks , among which Morocco’s Institut Royal des Etudes Stratégiques, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, the Fondation Robert Schuman and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

Fluent in French (native), English, Russian and Arabic, with a working knowledge of Spanish and German and an interest in Chinese (Putonghua), Alexander is frequently invited to deliver key note speeches in high profile conferences and forums all over the world, from Seoul to Moscow, Rio de Janeiro and Washington. He is frequently asked for his contrarian views on the markets, the global economy and key geopolitical developments by leading new agencies and media, including BBC World, France 24, TRT World, Russia Today, El-Ikhbariya, Al Jazeera, RTS, TV5 Monde, Voice of America, …). He has written uncountable Op-Eds and has been interviewed by leading newspapers such as Le Monde, Libération, La Tribune, Les Echos, Jeune Afrique, Le Point, L’Express, O Globo, China’s People’s Daily, The Christian Science Monitor, L’Orient Le Jour, Bloomberg News, Financial Times, Caixin Global, Le Vif.

Alexandre Kateb holds a Master’s degree in Engineering from Ecole Centrale Paris (now CentraleSupelec) with a Major in Quantitative Finance and Economics, and a Master’s degree in Political Economy from Sciences Po Paris. He has also studied Political science and Public Law at the University of Bonn in Germany.
